The musical adaptation of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is coming to Broadway

The musical adaptation of the 2005 Indian film Slumdog Millionaire — adapted from Vikas Swarup’s book, Q & A — is being brought to Broadway, where it will be produced by Seth Rudetsky and James Nederlander in partnership with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

Music by A.R. Rahman, the 2009 film’s composer, will be performed by a pop-R&B ensemble for the Broadway show, with choreography by Amit Aggarwal. The book, screenplay and lyrics will be by Adam Guettel. One of the show’s creators, Anthony McCarten, will produce. The musical will be a first for Rudetsky and Nederlander, who have produced shows with Alan Menken, David Yazbek and others.

Rudetsky said, “Slumdog Millionaire was a phenomenon, and this is such a rich and extraordinary story.” He added, “It is a show for every age but, with the right creative team, I think Broadway will be first in line.”
