Taylor Swift, BTS earn early wins at American Music Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The list of early winners at the American Music Awards was dominated by performers like Taylor Swift, Jack White and BTS.

Taylor Swift’s best-of album “Reputation” collected two trophies, while her U.S. tour of the same name picked up multiple prizes.

BTS — one of Asia’s most popular acts — picked up two awards for the duet “Idol” with Sean Paul and their album “Love Yourself: Tear.”

The quartet, now recognized in the United States as a musical group, was unable to attend the awards in person because of their performance at the Olympics closing ceremony last month.

The American Music Awards ceremony, which honors the best in music and other pop culture, was hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross. Other performers included Mary J. Blige, Ciara, Lauren Jauregui, Bebe Rexha, Britney Spears, Camila Cabello, Khalid, Nick Jonas, Post Malone, Alessia Cara, Janelle Monae, Shawn Mendes, Khalid, Andra Day, Shawn Carter and Tony Bennett.

U.S. singer-songwriter Aimee Mann captured the inaugural Artist of the Year honor. The Grammy-winning musician, who wasn’t invited to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards this week, accepted the honor via satellite.

Bruno Mars was named favorite soul/R&B artist.

Travis Scott picked up his second American Music Award for favorite rap/hip-hop artist. His collaborator on his album “Astroworld,” rap titan Drake, won favorite pop/rock artist.

Swift, nominated 17 times, won favorite pop/rock album for “Reputation” and favorite female pop/rock artist. Both of her awards were shared with former boyfriend Calvin Harris. Harris is also nominated for artist of the year.

Taylor Swift, whose latest album, “Reputation,” landed seven nominations, won two awards Wednesday at the American Music Awards: Favorite pop/rock album and favorite pop/rock song for the hit “Look What You Made Me Do.”

She couldn’t attend in person, but delivered a shout-out to the fans in her acceptance speech: “I always wonder, when I’m writing songs and I think about you, if I can possibly ever have made it.”
