Brazilian police have discovered over 8,000 Nazi and Nazi-related items, including hundreds of Nazi soldiers and uniforms, at the home of a suspected pedophile, according to reports from local news media outlets and the BBC .
The items were found by the military police in the north-eastern state of Pernambuco after police received a tip from the Federal Police about a long-term sexual relationship between a man and a 12-year-old girl. The pair is said to have taken advantage of an autistic boy from a nearby residential care center, according to the Guardian .
The home where the accused person lived is in the town of Serra da Tijuca, with staff not knowing he had been investigated by police previously, but information on his conduct with minors did not become public knowledge until this year.
The discovery took place on April 23, and the man was found to be involved in the illegal trafficking of Nazi artifacts, according to local press reports. This included stolen documents, Nazi symbolism, titles of pro-Nazi movies and documentaries, Nazi paraphernalia, and Nazi uniforms and camoflauge outfits, as well as “mementos and articles that venerate Adolf Hitler.”
He is currently being held in the forensic laboratory for questioning, local news sources said.
The accused man was supposedly the biological father of the autistic boy, who was sent to a residential center by the state health service and live-in childcare service due to his violent behavior.
The evidence against the father involved “visitors from various pre-schools, relatives and the victim’s own companions, who gave him gifts or money in return for a favor, or a personal favor,” prosecutor Joan Macedo Lima was quoted as saying in the Guardian.
“The [prosecution] medical report stated that the detained person is a pedophile with a persistent sexual interest in minors,” Lima told the BBC.
On April 9 a judge ordered the man’s house and property to be seized as well as searched.
