Mohamed Salah to feature on football card game app

He’s a signal defender, but now he may have also become the first player with a unique football role in the world.

Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian who won the Premier League and the Champions League with Liverpool last season, will sponsor a new mobile phone application that could bring football closer to fans than ever before.

Egyptian telecoms company Etisalat announced that it was partnering with the Anfield player to integrate his image into a football card gaming experience which fans can download for free. A star player would appear on a card that fans could purchase for their SuperTime game, from which each user could play one football-themed game per day until they reached a top player.

In the first 10 days of the game, game players amassed close to 200m coins, with 33,000 fans playing daily.

Salah is listed alongside world footballers including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar as a “proud sponsor” of the game. In a long statement on the website, Etisalat said Salah would “intellectualise the game”, while “giving his core business a global push.”

This is not the first game with football-linked financial incentives. League football player Wilfried Zaha has been an ambassador for a highly successful action game in which users customise their virtual teams using real squad members’ statistics.
