A shooting in downtown Los Angeles left one man dead and two others wounded, according to media reports. Police responding to a report of a shooting on South Broadway Street near Garey Avenue opened fire when the vehicle in which they were traveling sped away, the Los Angeles Times reported. Several shots were exchanged and the vehicle fled. The suspects fled on foot. There were no arrests made at the scene.
According to NBC News, one of the victims was found bleeding on the ground in front of a building on Garey Avenue. Police were unable to retrieve the other victim, who was found lying near the police car that fired the shots. The victim who was shot in the face died of his injuries. The surviving victims were reportedly in stable condition at a local hospital. The Los Angeles Times spoke to Frank Jackson, who lives just three blocks from the scene of the shooting. According to Jackson, multiple unmarked police cars and police helicopters flew in above his building for some time. Jackson said he and several other neighbors, including some children, were inside the building when they heard a “hissing sound.” When they looked outside, they saw the victims laying on the ground in front of the building.
